Daniel Ivan Hicks (December 9, 1941 – February 6, 2016) loved playing the Reno Tahoe area and had many coveted friends in the area, most notably up on the Comstock from before the days of founding The Charlatans and their now legendary 1965 gigs at the original Red Dog Saloon in Virginia city. Dan, and his various ensembles (The Hot Licks, The Acoustic Warriors, Deux Messieurs, Bayside Jazz…), played for us and others dozens of times over nearly 50 years. Here’s a classic with Dan and The Hot Licks on the Flip Wilson Show:
Our first concert recording release features Dan and Deux Messieurs at Barry Rivlin’s 140-seat club/restaurant Hacienda del Sol on South Virginia St. in Reno on April 29, 1986. This recording isn’t so sonically exceptional as it is exemplary of Dan’s playfulness and comedic rapport with the audience, to wit; his vocal solo on ‘Peach Pickin’ Time in Georgia’. ENJOY!
Lots more Dan to come…stay tuned!
