If you know who Steve Cropper is, you don’t want to miss this interview with guitar slouch (sic) Ronnie Wood (be patient to wait thru error msg, it will play–28min runtime):
Alien signpost?—uh…no, it’s a “Cypress Tunnel”
Can anyone tell us where this is, or what it means? [Thanks for all your incorrect, but amusing guesses.]
YES: It’s a shot from Google Earth of the KPH Marine radio station built by RCA circa 1930 and still operable today. [The KPH receive site is open for visitors every Saturday 1200 to 1700 local time. Visitors are welcome! The receive site is located at 17400 Sir Francis Drake Blvd in the Point Reyes National Seashore, just past G Ranch on the way to the lighthouse.]
The view from the street is locally known as the “Cypress Tunnel”, which was planted & tended by Coast Miwok descendant Joe Sciallo, of Marshall, CA, who was a station rigger for the facility 90+ years ago.
So, did ol’ Joe, whose ancestors have tread on that ground for only ten thousand years or so, know when he planted the little Cypress seedlings that they would look somewhat like a radio tower from space? Sure he did.
We got Bivalves listening!
Just a note of the avian persuasion:
We’re happy to reprise the little “Birdnote” episodes now fresh baked daily at/around 8am M-F on all Jiveradio network stations. [That’s a mama Snowy Plover and her little tyke.]
OH NO…ANOTHER CAPTION CONTEST!?
$100 reward PLUS A BAR OF SOAP —for the first person to name BOTH subjects (clue: Verdi, NV circa mid-90’s)!
And…THREE BARS OF SOAP and FREE ADMISSION TO KLAPPY’S PLAYHOUSE goes to the best caption. Contest ends March 31. SUBMIT TO: laz@jiveradio.org
