well, so I was listening to my show a few days ago, just to see if i could, as the late dan hicks once sang, scare myself. ya know? in some way or another. and the mix was actually sounding ok, but a bit….stale. like every song being fired up by Random Shuffle was a song that i had in my first bucket way back in late ’14, making all this stuff about 3 and a half years old. good songs, most, but they’d also been around the Jive Block a few times. i began listening for recent additions to The Bucket, and came up dry. started to get paranoid. the best thing to do upon the appearance of paranoia in our little experiment in radio terror–call jeff, the central scrutinizer for all technical Jive in the Open Sky Broadcast Network.
cutting to the chase…..what had happened was…..after a recent bad tech meltdown in april (we suspect Mongolian hackers), the reloading of songs in my bucket only made it to the 30% zone. meaning that only about 1,000 songs of my early ’18 figure of 3,500 rebooted into BVD Bucket, meaning 2500 were in digital limbo! and not getting played! happily, tech competence reared its blessed head, and i’m heartened to report that My Bucket of WatheGaryPuckett is now fully restored, bulging with about 3500 tunes, most of which deal in some way or other with the dopamine-drenched madness that’s so integral a part of romantic love.
Yes, there is some crazy shit in this massive injection of music, but there’s also all kinds of good shit, too. i think it’s gonna sound ok. and yes, apologies if you got a little burned out in the recent weeks when there were only 1,000 tunes in The Bucket because the last doggone thing we want to do is sound ORDINARY. your patience, diligence, and loyalty are all super and we appreciate them.
The BIG LIBRARY, our master “liberry” that plays through the night, for examplethat library was, as far as i know, generally unaffected or tweaked by that recent meltdown. it is and always has been a rather hefty piece of work. and curiously, i must report that The Bucket of WatheGaryPuckett contains absolutely ZERO gary puckett and the union gap songs. which might need correcting, although i’m not sure if the GP classic “Young Girl” is in good taste these days, considering the lecherous lyrics being sung as Gary skeezes up a storm, telling his tender darling that “my love for you is way out of line” and damn, gary, he’s pretty much fessing up to some jailbait action that might’ve been cool back in ’68, but may not fly here in This Modern Age.
